Qatar, Indonesia offer scholarships to Afghan students

Qatar and Indonesia have signed an agreement to provide scholarships to Afghan students for studies in Indonesia, according to a statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The agreement aims to create a framework for cooperation in education and development, with the goal of helping Afghan youth build a brighter future, the statement said. The agreement was signed by Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, Qatar’s Assistant Foreign Minister, and Retno Marsudi, Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, during a media-covered meeting.

Al Khater expressed hope that this initiative would be beneficial for Afghan students pursuing their studies in Indonesia. Marsudi, in turn, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two nations, particularly in supporting education and empowering women and girls in Afghanistan.

Officials from both countries reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Afghan youth and continuing efforts to strengthen education and human capacity-building in Afghanistan.

This agreement comes amid the Taliban’s ongoing ban on education for girls and women in Afghanistan. Since regaining power, the Taliban have prohibited women from attending schools and universities, shutting down educational institutions for female students across the country.
