Afghanistan has exported 442 tons of melons and watermelons over the past six months, according to the Taliban-run Ministry of Agriculture.
The ministry said in a statement that the exports were primarily from the southern province of Kandahar and were sent to markets in India and Pakistan.
The exports come amid significant challenges facing Afghan traders, many of whom report difficulties in maintaining and expanding their businesses.
A lack of sufficient cold storage facilities, rising customs tariffs, visa issues, and restrictions stemming from international sanctions—which have made it harder to transfer funds through banks—are among the primary obstacles cited by Afghan exporters.
