Afghan national among three killed in car accident on Indian Expressway

Three individuals, including an Afghan national, were killed and three others injured in a car accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, India, police reported on Sunday.

The accident occurred late Saturday night when their car collided with a truck near the 125-kilometer mark of the expressway in the Usrahar area, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Verma.

The car was traveling from Lucknow to Delhi following the Dussehra holiday, Verma noted.

The victims included Naz, a 30-year-old Afghan woman, her Russian friend Katharina, aged 20, and the car’s driver, Sanjeev, a 40-year-old resident of Delhi’s Tughlakabad Extension.

They were pronounced dead at the scene, according to local reports.

Among the injured were Naz’s sister Atifa, 25, Christine, 20, a resident of Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, and Rahul, 38, from Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar. They were transported to Saifai Medical College in Etawah for treatment.

Authorities have sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations as the investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
