Russia has already decided to remove Taliban from terrorist list, envoy confirms

Russia has already made the decision to remove the Taliban from its list of designated terrorist organizations, with only legal procedures remaining, according to Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan.

“The Russian leadership has already made the principal decision to remove the Taliban from the list of terrorist organizations. Now, the [Russian] Foreign Ministry, along with the Federal Security Service (FSB) and other agencies, are finalizing the legal details,” Kabulov told reporters following recent consultations on Afghanistan in Moscow. He emphasized that the process must follow Russia’s legal framework but expressed confidence that the decision will be formally announced soon.

Earlier, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov confirmed that the removal of the Taliban from the terrorist list was nearing completion. He added that Russia has observed the Taliban’s commitment to fighting ISIS-K, the local affiliate of the Islamic State, which he claimed continues to receive material support from Western countries for destabilizing activities.
