In a continuation of public corporal punishments by the Taliban, two individuals were publicly flogged on Wednesday in the Ghazni province.

According to a Taliban statement, the individuals were convicted of “immorality” in the district of Muqur in Ghazni and sentenced to flogging.

A statement from the Taliban’s Supreme Court said each person received 39 lashes and was also sentenced to two years in prison.

In the past two weeks alone (since September 19), the Taliban have flogged at least 15 individuals in public across several provinces, including Sar-e Pol, Herat, Kandahar, Laghman, and Balkh. Among those punished was one woman.

According to data compiled by Amu from Taliban statements, at least 700 individuals have been flogged in various provinces over the past three years.

The United Nations, in its most recent quarterly report, noted that despite ongoing criticism, Taliban continue to carry out corporal punishments. International human rights organizations, including the U.N., have consistently called on the Taliban to halt these practices.
