KABUL, Afghanistan — As deportations continue by Pakistan and Iran, 338 families were repatriated to Afghanistan on Thursday, according to the Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees.
The ministry reported that 53 families came back from Pakistan and 282 from Iran.
The largest group, 168 families, returned through the Islam Qala border crossing from Iran, while 117 families used the Silk Road route. Additionally, 30 families crossed at Torkham, and 23 through the Spin Boldak crossing with Pakistan.
The return of Afghan refugees comes amid growing complaints from migrants about the hardships they face in both neighboring countries. In recent weeks, Iranian authorities have defended the deportation of undocumented Afghan nationals, emphasizing that no country allows foreigners to remain without proper documentation.
Pakistan has also seen growing pressure to address the Afghan refugee crisis. Speaking at a gathering of Afghan migrants, Pakistan’s Federal Minister called for greater international support to facilitate the repatriation of Afghan migrants to their homeland.
