Taliban Finance Ministry pays $38 million of Afghanistan’s debt

The Taliban-controlled Ministry of Finance announced it has repaid 2.7 billion Afghanis (approximately $38 million) of Afghanistan’s debt owed to international institutions, which had accumulated under the previous government.

According to the ministry’s statement, the payments included 910 million Afghanis ($13 million) to the World Bank and approximately 1.9 billion Afghanis ($25 million) to the Asian Development Bank.

No further details were provided in the statement, and neither the World Bank nor the Asian Development Bank has commented on the repayments.
