Futsal World Cup kicks off, Afghanistan to face Angola

The 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup, now in its tenth edition, begins Saturday with 24 teams competing, including Afghanistan, which has qualified for the tournament for the first time. Afghanistan will face Angola in their opening match on Sunday.

Hosted by Uzbekistan, the tournament runs until October 6. Afghanistan’s match against Angola is set for 5 p.m. Afghanistan time. The national team is placed in Group 3, alongside Angola, Argentina, and Ukraine.

Speaking ahead of the match, Afghanistan’s goalkeeper Mohammad Jawad Safari expressed confidence in the team’s preparation. “I am one of the top 10 nominated goalkeepers in the world, and I am highly motivated to perform well. I promise to give 100% effort in these competitions, and with the support of my teammates and coaches, we hope to achieve the best results against Angola, Argentina, and Ukraine,” Safari said.

Argentina, which Afghanistan will face next Wednesday, is considered the strongest team in the group.
