Play abandoned again in New Zealand-Afghanistan Test match

Persistent rain and wet conditions forced another day of play to be abandoned in the one-off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand on Thursday.

Heavy overnight rain and ongoing drizzle in the morning have now delayed the start of the match for four consecutive days. No toss has been held, and with 80 percent of the match already lost, a complete washout seems likely.

The Greater Noida Sports Complex has been inundated by more than a week of rain, leaving ground staff struggling to prepare the field for play. Despite their efforts to repair a patchy outfield on day three, weather conditions have prevented any progress, and the same situation unfolded on day four.

The toss has been rescheduled for 9 a.m. local time on Friday.

This match is Afghanistan’s third Test in 2024, following encounters with Ireland and Sri Lanka. New Zealand is currently on a three-month subcontinental tour, with upcoming series against Sri Lanka and India.
