Family claims Taliban handed over Mahmoud Shah Habibi to al-Qaeda

The family of Mahmood Shah Habibi, an Afghan American, has claimed that Taliban has handed him over to the Al Qaeda network.

Ahmad Shah Habibi, Mahmoud’s brother, told Amu that a source within the Taliban’s intelligence agency informed him that Mahmoud was transferred to al-Qaeda after being detained by the Taliban.

Mahmood Shah Habibi, the former head of Afghanistan’s aviation authority, was arrested by the Taliban in Kabul’s Sherpur neighborhood following the death of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in Afghanistan.

Taliban has not officially confirmed Habibi’s detention, but the U.S. State Department has stated that Habibi is among three American prisoners currently being held by the Taliban.
