UN Security Council to hold meeting on women, girls in Afghanistan

The United Nations Security Council has announced that it will hold a meeting on September 18 to discuss the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Council noted that the meeting will be chaired by Tanja Fajon, Slovenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, with a focus on the education of women and girls in Afghanistan.

According to the statement, briefings will be provided by Roza Otunbayeva, head of the U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), and Sima Bahous, U.N. Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of U.N. Women.
