Sweden has pledged $6.8 million to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund for 2024, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Sweden, the fourth-largest and a consistent donor to the Fund, has contributed over SEK 874 million (approximately $80 million) since the Fund’s inception in 2014.

This contribution comes at a critical time, as U.N. agencies have repeatedly warned of severe funding shortages that threaten to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Last week, the World Food Program (WFP) announced that due to a significant funding shortfall, more than one million Afghan mothers and children are no longer receiving essential nutritional assistance.
