Taliban detains controversial commander on charges of negligence

Abdul Hameed Khorasani, a Taliban commander with a controversial reputation, was detained on Thursday on charges of “negligence and careless remarks,” according to credible sources within the Taliban’s Interior Ministry.

Khorasani, who previously served as a commander in the Taliban’s elite Badri army unit, is reportedly being held in the military court of the Taliban-run Interior Ministry. The sources also indicated that his forces have been disarmed.

The Taliban has not yet issued an official statement regarding Khorasani’s arrest. Khorasani, who hails from Panjshir, has been a polarizing figure within the group.

In an interview with Iranian media, Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid confirmed that Khorasani had been placed under house arrest. Khorasani, however, dismissed Mujahid’s comments, accusing him of harboring tribal biases.
