Clinton urges global action against Taliban’s new law silencing women

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called on the international community to “speak up” against a new Taliban law that bans women from speaking outside their homes.

In a post on her X account, Clinton warned of the dangers of extremist ideologies, asking, “Do you want to see where crackpot fundamentalism leads?” She continued, “Look no further than the Taliban’s new law prohibiting women from speaking outside of their homes.”

The law, enacted by the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice and approved by their supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, also bans the broadcasting of women’s voices in public.

Despite mounting international criticism, a Taliban official from the ministry told Amu TV that they remain “committed” to enforcing the law.
