GHAZNI, Afghanistan — Taliban publicly flogged two individuals in Ghazni province on Wednesday, marking the third consecutive day of public corporal punishment in various parts of the country.
According to a statement from the Taliban-run Supreme Court, one individual in Ghazni’s Deh Yak district received 39 lashes, while the other was subjected to 35 lashes. Both were accused of robbery.
This is the latest in a series of public floggings that the Taliban have carried out since regaining control of Afghanistan.
On Tuesday, August 27, three people were publicly flogged in southern Helmand province, and on Monday, August 26, 12 individuals were flogged in southern Zabul province.
The resumption of public corporal punishment has drawn widespread condemnation from international organizations and human rights groups, including the United Nations.
Data compiled by Amu TV reveals that over the past three years, the Taliban’s Supreme Court has stoned 37 individuals and prosecuted 176 others on various charges. Additionally, nearly 600 people, including 106 women, have been publicly flogged during this period.
