QUETTA, Pakistan — A bomb blast in southwestern Pakistan on Saturday claimed the lives of two children and left 16 others injured, including seven police officers, according to local authorities.
The explosion occurred near police headquarters in the town of Pishin, when a remote-controlled bomb, concealed on a motorcycle, detonated. “Explosives were planted in a motorcycle which was parked in the area,” said Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman, a police officer at the scene. The two children who died were passing through the area when the blast took place, he added.
Senior Superintendent of Police Manzoor Buledi confirmed the incident to Reuters, noting the presence of several injured policemen.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound sorrow over the deaths, referring to the children as “martyrs.” In a statement, he extended his condolences to the victims’ families and offered prayers for the swift recovery of those injured in the attack.
