As the deportation of undocumented immigrations continues, 245 families were repatriated to Afghanistan from Pakistan and Iran on Thursday, August 22, according to Taliban-run refugees ministry.

The ministry quoted by Taliban-run Bakhtar News Agency reported that 70 families returned from Pakistan, while another 175 families came back from Iran.

Of those returning from Pakistan, 43 families entered through the Torkham border, and 27 through the Spin Boldak border. Meanwhile, 62 families from Iran crossed into Afghanistan via the Silk Road in Nimroz, and 113 families entered through the Islam Qala border in Herat.

The return of these families comes amid ongoing complaints from Afghan refugees in Iran and Pakistan about mistreatment by authorities and citizens in the host countries.

Earlier this year, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that more than 683,000 Afghan migrants had returned from Pakistan between September 15, 2023, and July 31, 2024. The number of deportations has increased sharply since March, with the highest monthly totals recorded in May and June, when approximately 38,000 Afghans were sent back each month.
