Iran to complete 300 kilometers of border fence with Afghanistan by year’s end

TEHRAN — An Iranian military commander announced that 330 kilometers of the border fence along Iran’s eastern border with Afghanistan will be completed by the end of this year.

Sirus Amanollahi, a commander in the Iranian Army’s ground forces, stated that the border project is aimed at ensuring the security of Iran.

According to Iranian media, the commander of the Army’s Northeast Headquarters said the project is being carried out in coordination with Afghan authorities.

He added that the fencing of the borders in the provinces of Khorasan Razavi, South Khorasan, and Sistan and Baluchestan is expected to be completed within three years.

The border fortification project, which began in May 2024, has been allocated $3 billion by Iran’s armed forces.

Iranian officials have said that the border closures are intended to prevent the illegal entry of migrants, as well as the movement of terrorists and drug traffickers.
