SHEBERGHAN, Afghanistan — A one-day exhibition featuring agricultural products and handicrafts created by women farmers and artists was held in the northern province of Jawzjan.
The event, attended by at least 50 female entrepreneurs and farmers, aimed to promote local products and provide a platform for women to showcase their work.
The organizers emphasized the importance of such initiatives in boosting the local economy and supporting women’s roles in agriculture and the arts.
Suhaila, a 28-year-old farmer from Sheberghan, showcased her saffron products at the exhibition. “I have been cultivating saffron for five years,” she said. “We ask the government to continue supporting us so that we can make progress in this field.”
Participants praised the exhibition as a vital opportunity to raise public awareness about local products and to strengthen the economic activities of women. Humaira, another participant, called for more exhibitions focused on women’s handicrafts, noting their importance for marketing and sales.
Visitors also recognized the significance of such events in promoting local production. “This exhibition is very beneficial for women and their families,” one attendee remarked.
The exhibition comes at a time when the Taliban have imposed severe restrictions on Afghan women, including curtailing their access to work and education, making such opportunities for economic engagement all the more critical.
