On International Youth Day, UN highlights 63% of Afghans are under 25

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has highlighted the critical role of Afghanistan’s youth in shaping the country’s future, noting that 63 percent of the population is under the age of 25.

In a statement on Monday, the UNFPA emphasized that the meaningful engagement of this demographic is essential for the success and sustainability of humanitarian and development initiatives in Afghanistan.

“With a majority of the population being young, their involvement is not just beneficial but crucial for driving effective and lasting change,” the statement read. The UNFPA urged international and local organizations to prioritize youth participation in efforts to address the ongoing challenges facing the country, including those related to education, health, and economic development.

The UNFPA’s call comes as Afghanistan continues to navigate a complex landscape marked by political instability, economic hardship, and a deepening humanitarian crisis.

By focusing on the younger generation, the organization believes that more resilient and sustainable solutions can be achieved, ultimately contributing to a more stable future for Afghanistan.
