Ali Akbar, an Afghan taekwondo athlete, won the gold medal in the 62 kg weight category at the 2024 Asian Open International Taekwondo Championship.
The Afghanistan National Olympic Committee and Sport, now operating under Taliban control, announced that Samir Rahmani, another member of the national Taekwondo team, also secured a gold medal by defeating his Chinese opponent in the 85 kg weight category.
The Central Asian Taekwondo Championship, which has been taking place in China over the past two days, brings together athletes from five countries competing for top honors. The victories by Akbar and Rahmani mark significant achievements for Afghanistan in this regional competition.
