The United States has reiterated its commitment to supporting the people of Afghanistan, according to a statement from Karen Decker, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, posted on X.
Decker made the announcement while mourning the death of Abdul Fatah Rijaee, a local USAID staff member who was killed in a suicide bombing in August 2012 near the Provincial Council office in Kunar province. The attack also claimed the lives of three NATO soldiers.
“Rijaee gave his life working to improve the lives of Afghans living in Kunar province,” Decker said. “We continue to support the Afghan people and we honor his sacrifice.”
Rijaee was deeply involved in various developmental programs in Afghanistan, including the construction of schools and clinics. He also participated in efforts to extend electricity to the provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar.
