A funeral ceremony was held for Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Thursday morning. Participants in the ceremony carried Palestinian flags and chanted slogans in support of the people of Gaza.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, led the prayer over Haniyeh’s body.
Haniyeh, who was Hamas’s political leader, was assassinated Wednesday morning at his residence in Tehran.
Following the incident, Hamas issued a statement confirming his assassination in Iran.
Iranian officials have yet to comment on Mr. Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran or the specifics of the attack.
However, some global media outlets have reported that the incident was caused by a guided missile striking Haniyeh’s residence.
Haniyeh will be laid to rest in Qatar.
