Pakistan condemns assassination of Hamas leader in Tehran

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The Pakistani Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the Chief of the Political Bureau of Hamas, in Tehran. The ministry expressed deep shock at the “timing of this reckless act,” which coincided with the inauguration of Iran’s president.

“Pakistan views with serious concern the growing Israeli adventurism in the region,” the statement read. “Its latest acts constitute a dangerous escalation in an already volatile region and undermine efforts for peace.”

Haniyeh was targeted at his accommodation in Tehran, Iran. Both Iran and Hamas have accused Israel of orchestrating the assassination, though Israel has yet to confirm its involvement.

The attack has heightened tensions in the Middle East and raised concerns within the international community about further escalation in the region.
