Taliban reacts to Haniyeh assassination, urges global action against Israeli ‘aggression’

Taliban has issued a statement in response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, in Tehran, calling for global action to stop Israeli “aggression.”

In the statement, Taliban described Haniyeh’s death as a “great loss for the Islamic community and the jihadist movement.”

Taliban said in a statement that they “once again strongly urge influential parties, especially the Islamic and Arab world, to exert all efforts to stop the Zionists’ aggression and crimes in the region.”

Taliban warned that the continuation of the current situation would further destabilize the region and its countries.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned the assassination of Haniyeh as a “cowardly act,” asserting that Iran would defend its territorial integrity and ensure the perpetrators regret their actions.

Ismail Haniyeh, the political bureau chief and leader of Hamas, was assassinated early Wednesday, July 31, at his residence in Tehran. Hamas confirmed his assassination in a statement released shortly after the incident.

According to Iranian media reports, the deputy secretary-general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement called Haniyeh’s assassination a “great loss.”

Iranian authorities have not yet provided details about Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran, the nature of the attack, or how it was carried out.
