KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban-run meteorological department has issued a warning of potential heavy rainfalls, floods, and storms in six provinces of the country for Saturday.
The department’s statement named Nuristan, Kunar, Nangarhar, Paktya, Khost, and Paktika as the provinces at risk. The forecast predicts rainfall ranging between 15 to 30 millimeters in various areas, with wind speeds estimated to reach between 50 to 90 kilometers per hour.
This warning follows a severe flood and storm that struck Nangarhar nearly two weeks ago, resulting in over 40 deaths in the provincial Sorkroad district.
The United Nations has identified Afghanistan as the sixth most vulnerable country to climate change.
