Pakistan, Iran deport nearly 3,500 Afghan migrants

The Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees has reported that Iran and Pakistan have deported at least 3,479 Afghan migrants in the past two days.

The statement noted that while some refugees left voluntarily, others were forced to leave. Iran deported 3,075 individuals, and Pakistan deported 404 individuals.

Among those returning from Pakistan, 208 entered Afghanistan through the Torkham crossing and 196 through the Spin Boldak crossing. From Iran, 2,385 individuals entered through the Islam Qala border in Herat, and another 690 returned via the Pul-e-Abrisham border in Nimroz.

This deportation wave comes amid reports of mistreatment against Afghan migrants in Iran, following the killing of an Iranian citizen in Tehran by three Afghan migrants last week.

Pakistan has deported over 500,000 Afghan migrants since last November as part of its policy to expel “undocumented” migrants.
