An Uzbekistani delegation, led by the country’s Minister of Water Management, Shavkat Hamroyev, is in Afghanistan to visit the affected areas around the Amu River with a Taliban delegation.
In a statement, the Taliban-run agriculture ministry noted that both delegations emphasized the importance of preventing further destruction in the areas surrounding the Amu River.
Residents of the provinces along the river have repeatedly complained about severe financial losses due to rising water levels, which have damaged hundreds of acres of land and destroyed harvests. They have called for construction along the Amu River to prevent the waves from impacting their crops.
