Taliban publicly flogs three, including woman, in Bamiyan

Taliban publicly flogged three individuals, including a woman, in the central province of Bamiyan on Wednesday evening, according to a statement by the Taliban-run supreme court.

The incident took place in the central park of Bamiyan, with Taliban members administering the punishment.

The court confirmed the event in a statement, citing accusations of adultery, adultery, and theft.

According to the court’s statement, one of the accused was sentenced to four years in prison and 35 lashes.

The second individual received 35 lashes and a five-year prison term, while the third was given 30 lashes and a six-month prison sentence.

Human rights organizations and global bodies, including the United Nations, have repeatedly condemned the Taliban’s methods of punishment. They argue that the Taliban administers these penalties without providing the accused access to legal representation and without adhering to due process.

The United States Department of State, in its annual human rights report on Afghanistan, described such punishments by the Taliban as “inhumane” and called for their immediate cessation.

Taliban has publicly flogged hundreds of individuals, including women, in similar events in the last nearly three years.Top of FormBottom of Form
