Pakistan halts commute of Afghan patients with electronic travel passes

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Pakistani government has suspended the passage of Afghan travelers holding Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) passes designated for medical patients, sources told Amu.

According to these sources, the border at Torkham remains open for ordinary travelers with standard visas. However, Afghan citizens with ETAs, intended for those undergoing medical treatment in Pakistan, have been denied entry.

Earlier, many Afghans at Torkham expressed frustration, stating that Pakistani officials were preventing them from crossing the border.

The ETA system was established by the Pakistani government to facilitate travel for Afghan patients seeking medical care in Pakistan. Over the past three years, Pakistan has imposed various severe restrictions on travelers crossing through Torkham.
