Rahim Saeedi, the director and producer of the YouTube channel “Anaar,” has been in Taliban custody for the past ten days.
Saeedi’s relatives report that there has been no news about his whereabouts since his detention. They also mention that the Taliban have not provided any reason for his arrest.
Saeedi was detained by the Taliban’s intelligence service on July 14.
This incident follows the arrest of Mohammad Yar Majrooh, a local journalist in Kandahar, who was summoned and detained without explanation on July 13 (22 Saratan).
In nearly three years, the Taliban have arrested dozens of journalists. Human rights organizations have reported cases of torture of some journalists by the Taliban.
The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee reported that in the first six months of this year alone, it recorded at least 90 incidents of threats and arrests of journalists. The report, covering January through June, documented at least 89 cases of violations of journalists’ and media rights across various provinces.
