UNITED NATIONS — Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s ambassador to the UN, emphasized his country’s potential for fostering cooperation between the UN and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to bolster stability in Afghanistan.
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Friday, Iravani stated that Tehran is prepared to collaborate in promoting peace and security in the region. He also stressed the importance of improving Afghanistan’s economy through joint infrastructure projects.
“Considering the challenges in Afghanistan, we believe that strengthened cooperation between the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has significant capacity to enhance stability and development in Afghanistan,” Iravani said.
This call for cooperation comes as Iran and several other regional countries continue to advocate for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan under the Taliban.
