Afghanistan: Eight people injured in attack Muharram ceremony in Sar-e-Pul

SAR-E-PUL, Afghanistan—Eight people were injured on Friday afternoon when an individual attacked a Muharram mourning ceremony in the northern province of Sar-e-Pul, local sources reported.

The attack occurred around 12:30 p.m. local time in the “Chobfroshan Alley” on the outskirts of Sar-e-Pul City.

According to witnesses, a person on a motorcycle threw a hand grenade at the mourners.

The mourners had gathered in a tent and were preparing to head towards the Imam Zadeh Yahya shrine when the attack happened, sources said.

The Taliban has not yet commented on the incident.

This attack comes amid strict restrictions imposed by the Taliban on Muharram ceremonies this year.
