Taliban has arrested Mohammad Yar Majrooh, a local journalist in Kandahar, according to Afghanistan Journalists Center.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center said in a statement that Majrooh was detained last Saturday (July 13).
The circumstances and reasons for his arrest remain unclear.
The statement mentioned that a source within the local Taliban administration confirmed Majrooh’s arrest.
According to this source, Mr. Majrooh was summoned and detained by the Kandahar court.
Majrooh previously worked as a reporter for Tolo News and was arrested by Taliban intelligence in February 2023.
During their nearly three years, Taliban has detained dozens of journalists. Several human rights organizations have reported instances of journalists being tortured by the Taliban.
