Taliban has issued a directive banning women and girls from visiting recreational areas in Garziwan district of the northern province of Faryab.
In the announcement, the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice warned that anyone violating this order would face “legal” action against the “male guardians of the offending women.”
The directive specifically names Khwaja Ghar, Dara-e Shakh and Dara-e Rang as prohibited recreational areas for women.
Taliban has already banned women from visiting recreational places in Kabul and other provinces.
A recent United Nations report evaluating the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (MPVPV) from August 15, 2021, to March 31, 2024, has documented 1,033 instances where the Taliban used force to implement their directives. These actions resulted in violations of personal liberty and physical and mental integrity, the report says.
According to reports, over the past two months, more than 50,000 domestic tourists, including women, have visited the natural attractions and recreational areas of Dara-e Shakh, Dara-e Rang, and Khwaja Ghar in Garziwan district, Faryab.
However, the Taliban has now prohibited women and girls from visiting these areas for leisure.
