Traffic accident in Kandahar leaves one dead

Kandahar, Afghanistan — A traffic accident in Kandahar Province in southern Afghanistan resulted in one death and injuries to five others, including three women.

The Taliban-controlled Department of Information and Culture in Kandahar reported that the incident occurred when a speeding car collided with a Mazda truck.

The statement noted that the car was carrying a groom, who was the victim of the fatal crash.

The accident happened on Tuesday, July 16, in the Sufi Ghafar Aka area of the Maiwand district.

Traffic accidents have been on the rise in Afghanistan in recent days. In a recent incident early Tuesday, 17 people died and 34 were injured in a crash at the Salang Pass.

Most of these accidents have been attributed to driver negligence and poor road conditions.
