The Taliban-run meteorology department has issued a warning for heavy rainfalls and subsequent floods in 22 provinces of Afghanistan on July 13-14.

The provinces expected to be affected are Badakhshan, Takhar, Kunduz, Balkh, Sar-e Pul, Bamiyan, Baghlan, Samangan, Panjshir, Parwan, Kapisa, Nuristan, Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar, Kabul, Logar, Paktia, Khost, Paktika, Ghazni, and Maidan Wardak. The Salang area is also included in the prediction.

The department estimated rainfall between 15 to 40 millimeters across different regions.

Afghanistan is identified as the sixth most vulnerable country to climate change, according to the United Nations. In May, severe floods in the northern, northeastern, and western provinces resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people, including women and children.
