LUCKNOW, India — At least 18 people were killed and 19 injured when a bus collided with a milk tanker in Uttar Pradesh state on Wednesday morning, according to local authorities.
The New Delhi-bound bus, which originated in the eastern state of Bihar, rear-ended the milk tanker on an expressway in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh.
Footage showed injured passengers being transported by ambulance to a hospital in Unnao, where they awaited medical treatment. Concerned family members were seen speaking with Unnao District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi, who addressed the media outside the hospital’s emergency department.
Police are still verifying the exact number of passengers on the bus at the time of the collision.
