US expresses concerns to India over ties with Russi

The United States has conveyed its apprehensions to India regarding its relationship with Russia, particularly in light of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, a State Department spokesperson said on Monday.

The comments came in response to queries about a recent meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Putin hosted Modi for face-to-face talks in Moscow on Monday, according to a statement from the Kremlin. Modi, who is visiting the Russian capital for a two-day state visit, is expected to arrive later in the day. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed reporters that the two leaders would meet informally in the evening, allowing them to engage in a one-on-one discussion with a “free agenda.”

Last week, a senior Indian official indicated that Modi’s priorities in Moscow include addressing India’s trade imbalance with Russia and ensuring the safe return of Indian citizens who were misled into participating in the Ukraine conflict.
