BAJAUR, Pakistan — Former Pakistani senator Hidayatullah Khan was killed on Wednesday in an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to Pakistani media reports.
The blast targeted Khan, a former member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, in Bajaur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dawn reported, citing a regional police officer. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to Pakistani police.
Bajaur District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmad told Dawn that the bomb disposal unit is investigating the incident and more details will emerge once the report is completed.
Ahmad added that the former senator was on his way to a by-election campaign in Damadola when his convoy was struck by the bomb.
