BADAKHSHAN, Afghanistan — Residents of Darayim district in the northeastern province of Badakhshan staged a protest against the Taliban on Wednesday, according to sources.

Several protesters were injured by Taliban gunfire during the demonstration, the sources reported.

The protest was sparked by the Taliban’s move to destroy poppy fields in one of the villages in Darayim district, the sources said.

Taliban has not commented on the protest.

In previous protests in May by residents of Argo and Darayim districts in Badakhshan, at least three protesters were killed by Taliban gunfire.
