Taliban publicly flogs man in Ghazni

Taliban publicly flogged a man in the Malistan district of Ghazni province on Sunday.

According to a statement from the Taliban-run Supreme Court, the individual was flogged 39 times on charges of “adultery.”

Taliban has not provided further details about the man.

Human rights organizations have strongly criticized the Taliban’s continued use of public corporal punishment.

Richard Bennett, the UN special rapporteur, condemned the practice and noted that the frequency of public punishments by the Taliban has increased in recent weeks.

Over the past three years, Taliban has publicly flogged hundreds of people for various alleged offenses.
