The upcoming Doha meeting could play a pivotal role in rekindling constructive cooperation between the international community and the Taliban, according to Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan.
In an interview with the TASS news agency, Kabulov emphasized that the world is gradually recognizing the Taliban’s legitimate control over Afghanistan, a reality that Russia acknowledged long ago.
“The crisis in Afghanistan will be a central topic for the participants of the Doha meeting,” Kabulov noted. “In our view, this meeting will be effective if it helps revive close and constructive cooperation between the international community and the Afghan authorities, particularly in addressing the social and economic challenges faced by the country and its people.”
Kabulov confirmed that he intends to engage with the Taliban delegation on the sidelines of the meeting. “We will communicate both on the sidelines and in any other convenient formats,” he said.
The third round of the Doha meeting is scheduled for June 30 and July 1, with the Taliban delegation led by spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid.
