At least 34,000 Afghan migrants have returned from Iran and Pakistan in the past week, according to a report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The report detailed that 20,634 individuals returned through the Islam Qala, Milak, and Abu Nasr Farahi border crossings from Iran. Meanwhile, 13,694 individuals entered Afghanistan through the Torkham, Pathan, Ghulam Khan, Angoor Ada, Spin Boldak, and Baramcha crossing points with Pakistan.
The IOM also recorded that 7,625 individuals left Afghanistan for Iran through the Islam Qala, Milak, and Abu Nasr Farahi border crossings. Additionally, 12,064 individuals departed for Pakistan through the Torkham, Pathan, Ghulam Khan, Angoor Ada, Spin Boldak, and Baramcha crossings.
The report noted a significant discrepancy between inflows and outflows at the Iranian border before Eid, with inflows often being almost double outflows. However, this trend dropped during the Eid holidays, when borders were closed from June 17-18. Many borders remained closed or only partially open until June 19, except for the Torkham border crossing.
