Death toll in Bamiyan flooding rises to 19

BAMIYAN, Afghanistan — The death toll in deadly flooding in the central province of Bamiyan has increased to 19, sources from the province said on Thursday.

The sources told Amu that the victims were members of two families.

The bodies of nine victims have been recovered, but ten others remain missing. Among the dead are women and children.

The floods struck the villages of Podeena Tou, Hazarcheshma, and Duzdan Cheshma in Yakawlang district on Wednesday.

Saboor Forozan Saghani, the spokesman for the Taliban governor of Bamiyan, confirmed the incident and stated that the floods caused significant casualties and financial losses.

According to the Taliban, 35 livestock were lost, and substantial damage was inflicted on local agriculture.
