Afghanistan falls to South Africa in T20 World Cup semifinals

Afghanistan’s hopes of reaching the T20 World Cup final were dashed as they lost to South Africa in the semifinals.

South Africa bowled Afghanistan out for just 56, taking eight wickets within the first 10 overs. Marco Jansen, named Player of the Match, delivered an impressive performance with figures of 3/16 from three overs. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje also contributed significantly, with figures of 2/14 and 2/7 from three overs, respectively. Tabraiz Shamsi finished off the tail, taking 3/16 in just 11 balls.

This marks the first time a team has bowled out their opposition for under 100 in a Men’s T20 World Cup semifinal.

Chasing a modest target of 57, South Africa’s top order remained calm. Despite the early dismissal of Quinton de Kock, who was bowled out by Fazalhaq Farooqi for 5, Reeza Hendricks (29*) and Aiden Markram (23) ensured there were no further threats, securing the win inside nine overs.

South Africa now awaits the winner of the India vs. England semifinal, with the final set to be played in Barbados on June 29.
