Women’s rights group calls for decisive action against Taliban policies

Over 500 women activists from inside and outside Afghanistan have urged the international community to take decisive action against the Taliban’s policies.

The Afghan Women Coordinating Body stated on X (formerly Twitter) that the UN risks “endorsing the Taliban’s discriminatory policies” by excluding Afghan women from key discussions, such as the upcoming third round of the Doha meeting.

“Over 500 brave members, mostly from inside Afghanistan, urge the UN to reaffirm its commitment to human rights and gender equality,” the group said on X.

The third round of the Doha meeting on Afghanistan is scheduled for June 30 and July 1, with envoys from around 30 countries and institutions expected to attend, according to the UN.

The Taliban’s invitation to the meeting has sparked strong reactions from women’s rights activists and human rights organizations.
