US expresses solidarity with Afghan refugees on World Refugee Day

On World Refugee Day, the U.S. mission for Afghanistan expressed its solidarity with the people of the country who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict and persecution.

The mission underscored a renewed commitment to international laws that protect refugees and to the basic dignity of all humans. “Together, let’s build a world where everyone can live in safety and dignity,” the U.S. embassy for Afghanistan said in a statement on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

The statement comes as hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to leave Afghanistan due to economic hardship and security issues following the collapse of the U.S.-backed government of President Ashraf Ghani in August 2021.
