At least nine injured in shooting at Detroit-area water park, police say

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. — At least nine people, including two children, were injured in a shooting on Saturday at a water park in this suburban Detroit community, according to the authorities.

The Oakland County sheriff, Michael Bouchard, said that the suspect later took his own life at a home in a nearby community.

“So it’s going to be one of those challenges to try to figure out why there appears to be no connection between the victims and the location whatsoever,” Sheriff Bouchard said.

Rochester Hills, located about 30 miles north of Detroit, is adjacent to Oxford Township, which was the site of a mass school shooting in 2021. In that incident, a student, Ethan Crumbley, then 15, killed four students and wounded six other students and a teacher at Oxford High School.
