KABUL, Afghanistan — The European Union’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Tomas Niklasson, met with Iran’s deputy ambassador in Kabul, Ghulam Riza, to discuss the forthcoming Doha meeting.
The Iranian embassy in Kabul said on X that the discussions also covered regional and international cooperation regarding Afghanistan.
Niklasson met with the Taliban’s foreign minister in Kabul on Saturday, June 1.
Taliban said the two sides exchanged views on the Doha meeting – scheduled for June 30.
The EU special envoy emphasized the importance of the Taliban delegation’s participation in the event, Taliban said.
The third round of the Doha meeting of special envoys on Afghanistan is scheduled to take place at the end of this month.
The report highlighted that the situation in the flood-affected provinces across northern, northeastern, and western Afghanistan remains critical, necessitating urgent mobilization of additional resources to address the escalating humanitarian and health needs.
